Today our lego people took a ride on a zip line! The children engineered contraptions for their lego figurines to go for a fast ride down the slope. Ms. Megan showed the children a video of her adventures on a zip line and then they were off to create their own fun and movement! The children explored scientific concepts such as gravity, tension and angels. Through this hands on play with the lego zip line we learned:
- speed up the lego person by increasing the angle of the slope
- gravity works to pull the lego person down the zip line
- tension on the cord is needed to maintain travel
This week we continued learning about two states of matter: liquids and solids. The children found that when you heated the crayons with a blowdryer, they melted. They used the blowdryer to make the melted crayons move in different directions.
They even worked together to come up with a name for this collaborative scientific artwork –
“Rainbow Fireworks Crazy Crayon Party”
Today we made a liquid turn into a solid. With a mixer, the kids whipped air into the cream. It turned fluffy and white. The kids also shook the cream in a jar, watching the fats come together to make butter. It was creamy and yellow.
Andy the Ambulance visited our classroom today! We learned about calling 911 for emergencies, what a paramedic does and all about the inside and outside of an ambulance.
