October 30th-Leaf Art

We have been studying leaves for the past few weeks. The children have collected them, as well as compared sizes, colors and shapes.

Today we watched a video of the book Leaf Man, by Lois Ehlert.   After, the children enjoyed making their own leaf creations with leaves and seeds.

B made a baby chick.

N made a person with lips and a donkey.

R made a city.

M made a squirrel.

October 23rd- Field Trip

We had so much fun on our trip to the local apple orchard! The children learned about how bees help to pollinate the flowers so that the apples can grow. We also enjoyed a wagon ride, picking pumpkins, cider and donuts, and a hay maze!

October 16- STEAM

Today we took a trip around the world to see some famous structures! From the Pyramids of Giza to the Eiffel Tower, the children explored with different size and shape blocks to create their own versions of these prominent structures and buildings.  The children were also very curious as to where these places were located on the globe.

October 9th- STEAM

Our special activities for STEAM Friday this week revolved around more play with colors and we added in some preschool chemistry!      The children have been fascinated by colors and how we can make changes by mixing or combining, as well as adding light and dark to them.

We thought it would be fun to make some cinnamon apple play dough to share with our M-Th friends, as we begin our studies of apples, pumpkins and fall.  The children followed and read a recipe, learned about measurements, and watched as simple ingredients combined and changed into something new-      play dough!

Next, we explored a change that happens when you combine vinegar and baking soda.  The children painted with vibrant colors mixed with baking soda and then used droppers to add vinegar.  The fizzing bubbling colors made their jaws drop!
